I wrote a small tool to import K2 content from a CSV file and to export K2 data to a CSV file.
www.individual-it.net/en/Joomla/

Its possible to import all fields including "extra fields", userids, images, tags, galleries, categories and attachments.

The file must have a heading row. Text delimiter: ' " ' field separator: ','
For "Multiple Select" Fields use also "," to separate the options e.g.: "option 1, option 3"

To have a example-file to first an export and check the documentation.

Here is user manual
If you like it please vote for it or write a review

If you have problems:

  1. check the old thread in the forum
  2. check if you use the most actual version
  3. check the minimum requirements
  4. post here if you still have a problem - and report:
    • the joomla version
    • the OS version
    • the K2 version
    • the K2 Import / Export tool version
    • the exact problem ("It doesn't work" - doesn't help anybody)

To stay up do date and informed follow me on twitter and have a look at this topic.

Hi,
please read the documentation: www.individual-it.net/Instructions-for-K2-Import-Component.html

You basically can create some items in K2 and the go to Components -> K2 Import / Export and export your existing items then you would have example file.
Or you check the example file in the documentation.

sorry I do not understand your problem.
When you upload and import the CSV you should have new items in K2.

The extension just works with Joomla 1.5 and K2 2.4.x

Yes I'm going to do that - but as always I cannot tell a date

Are they somewhere informations about how the DB changed between 2.4 and 2.5?
and are there differences between the versions of Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 1.7?

I havent seen any documentation on this yet. Guess we will have to take the installation scripts of 2.5 apart to see if there are any modify table's in it and also if there is script to detect if upgrading or not

Hi,
at first K2 2.4 is required, but of course you can test also with other versions, but no guarantee that it will work.

Your PHP installations do not allow you more than the software tries to allocate. So you can try to change the settings in the php.ini or try to import less rows per loop.

BTW. at what point does this error appears?

hi guys,

I just installed this onto an online server running joomla 1.6 under i.e.9

it seemed to install fine (i tried both versions) - but when i select the import/export tool under components it takes me to the HTTP500 internal server error screen ...

when i refresh the cache under joomla admin it brings the following error

Failed loading XML file
/home/sites/mtsgroup.co.uk/public_html/resource/administrator/components/com_k2import/k2import.xml
XML: failed to load external entity "/home/sites/mtsgroup.co.uk/public_html/resource/administrator/components/com_k2import/k2import.xml"

XML: failed to load external entity "/home/sites/mtsgroup.co.uk/public_html/resource/administrator/components/com_k2import/k2import.xml"

i have tried both versions and running a gavick pro template i have installed numerous components altready so it shouldn't be a server auth issue.... help please, i have over 1000 k2 articles to put up asap.

Happy new year to everybody!

This new year starts with a new version of the K2 Import / Export Tool. ITS NOW WORKING ALSO WITH JOOMLA 1.7
The actual version 0.9_alpha1 is not tested very well. I just publish it for the impatient among us Please remember its an alpha-version

There are no new features, I've done some bug fixes, some clean-up and of course the support for Joomla 1.7

If you still have a valid download-link from your previous purchase, you can of-course download the new version for free.
And as always: if you buy it now you will be able to download updates for 10 days for every EUR you pay. This means, pay 3€ and you will be able to download updates for one month, pay 6€ for two month, and so on.

Because for some its maybe strange to buy an untested version, I will give the alpha version away for free for every tweet that:

  1. contains my twitter account
  2. mentioning this extension
  3. and contains a link to this forum, to my page or to JED

Additionally I will send the alpha version to the first 10 people that are interested in serious testing. This will include testing in different environments, with data you would have to create and reporting back to me.

Please send me an Email if you are interested in testing: www.individual-it.net/en/kontakt-impressum.html

hello, i got this error when trying to export:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 96468992 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 10649601 bytes) in xxx/xxx/public_html/libraries/joomla/environment/response.php on line 176

I ask to the host company to increase the memory and they told me this:
128M is allowed to your account, but according to the number (96468992) somewhere in your script 10M is restricted. You have to check your script where it is showing 10M and change it to 128M.

What should i do?

Hi,
please tell me a little bit more about your system. see first post.

The export script does not limit the memory size. Check if you have a .htaccess file that limit its.
And go to: Site-> System information -> PHP Information and check the value memory_limit
What does it says?

on and off topic... I want to follow this thread but is there any way to follow it without actually posting in it?

I am very interested in this software and hoping it will be available soon as I am getting close to needing something to import over 3000 items from a current version to my new install..

Hiya,

I have K2 Import 0.8 and Joomla 1.7. Am attempting to update extra fields for multiple k2 items at once using an import based on Item Title, although every time I run the import, despite seeing report of import process, all extra fields aren't importing and are then showing as default setting when i go back to check? Any ideas how I resolve this?

Hi,

I have been using your great tool succesfully, this is really a life saver for me.

I have just one small question: Can you tell me where and what I have to change in the code, so that it accepts a semi-colon separated .csv instead of a comma separated one? (It is not very difficult to replace before uploading, but since I have to update my site very often, I want to automate the process as much as possible.)

Thank you.

@ALL: sorry for the super late reply, but there is not RSS here, so its hard to follow up. I'm really sorry!

@Yiannis: Did you try to import less rows per loop?
@Aaron: I have the same problem, I even don't know how to follow when posting. an email at new posts or a RSS feed would be great
@Rachael McLoughlin: I'm happy you contacted me by email and we could sort this problem by overwriting the items based on ID. the ID based method is generally saver, but if anybody face the same problem please contact me I will try to track the bug.
@Spejbl Hurvinek search the models/k2import.php for fgetcsv() and change the comma to a semicolon - I think this should work.

After some time here comes a new version of the extension. CSV Import / Export Tool for K2
I think we can call it beta status now!

Beside some bugfixes there is now the possibility to export just some categories. You can select the categories you like to export and the tool will just export them. This could be useful if you run into problems with the max_execution_time or max_memory.
Some more export adjustments will follow.

As always: If you bought the extension recently check if your download link still works. For every EUR you paid you have the possibility to download updates during the next 10days. so if you pay 3EUR you can access updates at least during the next 30days.

I have the latest .09_beta version installed. I setup all my categories and a few articles in K2. I then exported a csv file so that I would have some sample data to follow. I added some info to the csv file and then tried to import it.
Here is a screen shot of the settings I chose:
k2-import1.png

Here is the result:
k2-import2.png

In the generated source code, the second to last line is:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/downtown/public_html/administrator/components/com_k2import/views/associate/tmpl/default.php on line 32

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Additional info: Joomla 2.5.2 php v5.3.8 K2 v2.5.5

Thank you.

Hi Sue,
your hoster limits you to 30 seconds per script run. If you importing big data or images, or the server ist slow this could be to less. Try to import less rows per loop.
Set the setting: "Import rows per loop" to 1
Then the script will try to import row by row. I hope the 30 seconds will be fine then.
