Another important reason to retire the current templates section is that it does not allow to surface changes to existing entries. And it's hard to keep track of template updates. Since all template providers make sure their sites are up to date with new product versions and changelogs, there is no reason to post all this info into getk2.org as well.
So here's what we're gonna do. We will be listing template providers in 2 separate groups: those who produce quality K2 overrides (not just playing nice with K2's default structure & CSS) and K2 specific Joomla templates & everybody else. What we ask of template providers is to send us the following details for this new directory:
- the logo of your brand (at least 512x512 pixels in PNG 24 format)
- a link to a search or listing for K2 supporting Joomla templates. If you build templates and only some support K2, please create a K2 specific listing (e.g. a search or tag listing) and provide us with that link. This link will be used only to point back to your site. And feel free to use any tracking URL parameters (e.g. from Google Analytics). It doesn't matter if you point back to your site or e.g. a listing on ThemeForest or Creative Market. Whatever suits you best. All we ask is a clear listing of K2 supporting Joomla templates only.
- a really-really short description of your brand (either as a company or freelancer)
We will periodically go through this directory to check if things are up to date. If there are any disputes we will contact you (the template provider).
So, starting March 2016, we will not be accepting new template submissions. That's it. Fin :)
On April 2016, we will be rolling out the new K2 website which will include the new template providers directory. Any company or freelancer who produces quality K2 supporting Joomla templates can be listed there. If you want to make sure you're in this directory, please get in touch with us and provide us the 3 things we ask above: https://getk2.org/contact-us (make sure you use the subject: "For the new K2 Template Providers Directory")
The K2 Extensions Directory will of course continue listing new K2 supporting Joomla extensions as there are many indie devs out there who produce quality free K2 extensions, listing them on GitHub or similar places. Of course, we still encourage K2 extension developers to also list their products in the K2 specific category in the Joomla Extensions Directory: http://extensions.joomla.org/tags/k2-extensions
P.S. To the template providers who will decide not to get listed in this new directory, we thank you for having supported K2 so far.
